JOB DESCRIPTION

A Catering Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of catering services for events, ensuring client satisfaction, and operational efficiency. This role involves managing client relationships, coordinating with internal teams, and ensuring the seamless delivery of catering services.

QUALIFICATIONS

Entry is possible with a variety of academic qualifications and/or relevant experience. Larger catering and licensed premises chains offer managerial trainee schemes. Candidates for these usually require a BTEC/SQA award, a degree or equivalent qualification, or a professional qualification. Off and on-the-job training is provided. NVQs/SVQs in relevant areas are available at Levels 2 to 4.

TASKS

  • Communicate with clients to understand their catering needs, preferences, and event requirements..

  • Recruit, train, and supervise catering staff, including chefs, servers, and support personnel..
  • Create staffing schedules and assign duties for events..
  • Coordinate logistics for catering events, including transportation of equipment, setup, and breakdown..
  • Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations and quality control standards..
  • Develop and manage budgets for catering services, considering costs for food, staffing, equipment, and other expenses..
  • Implement cost-control measures to maximize profitability..
  • Work with the sales and marketing teams to promote catering services and attract new clients..
  • Participate in sales efforts, including presenting proposals and conducting tastings..
  • Establish and maintain relationships with vendors, negotiate contracts, and manage supplier agreements for food and equipment..
  • Monitor vendor performance and seek opportunities for cost savings..
  • Maintain high-quality standards for food preparation, presentation, and service..
  • Conduct regular reviews and evaluations to ensure consistency and improvement..
  • Gather client feedback and implement improvements based on suggestions and comments..
  • Resolve any issues or concerns raised by clients during or after events..
  • Generate financial reports related to catering operations, including revenue, expenses, and profit margins..
  • Analyse data to identify areas for financial improvement..
